Healthy Eating and Kite Making

We have had a busy week continuing to focus on our topic summer but also including Healthy Eating Week.

As part of Healthy Eating Week, we have been reading the book ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’ by Eric Carle. Following on from this we have been looking at the difference between healthy and unhealthy foods and playing lots of sorting games. The children brought in some jam jars from home and have had lots of fun planting their very own bean plants. Hopefully we will get some beans in the coming weeks!

Whilst at the park, on Friday last week, one of the children remarked about how windy it was and that we should fly a kite. We didn’t have a kite at school so we decided the best idea would be to make one!

The children have been learning about how kites are shaped like diamonds; they chose their favourite colour to decorate their kite and re-enforced them with lollipop sticks before choosing a ribbon for its tail. Hopefully we will have another windy day soon so we can try them out!

This week we have been focusing on the sound ‘o’ and the number 8. The children have enjoyed playing lots of sound and number games both in the nursery and at the park.

What do you think we might do next week?
