While the world has been focused on academic achievement in childhood, emotional self-regulation has been largely ignored. At Happy Hearts Kensington Nursery, we understand the importance of developing emotional intelligence (EQ) in children as it is related to many important outcomes for their future life. Children with higher emotional intelligence are better able to pay attention, are more engaged in school, have more positive relationships, and are more empathetic. With this in mind, we always make sure to be aware of children’s emotions, to see emotions as an opportunity for connection and teaching, to listen and validate the feelings, to label their emotions and to develop problem-solving skills.
We place immense value on discovering the unique voice within each child. Our philosophy is about inspiring the children’s love of learning, awakening their natural creativity and developing their inner confidence to make positive choices throughout their lives. One key aspect of our ethos is to encourage the children to respect and care about each other, as well as themselves, whilst learning to thrive as part of a group.
